Energy efficiency is a concern for us all, however for businesses large or small, energy bills contribute significantly to the bulk of their outgoings whilst having a responsibility at the same time to keep carbon emissions to a minimum. Once the needs of the building in question have been fully assessed a solution can be devised as to the best way to meet the output requirements, in the most energy and cost efficient way.
The use of more than one boiler is often required for light commercial properties but even where one boiler would suffice, it is often preferable to spread the heating output over multiple boilers known as a cascade system.
Cascading offers numerous benefits. For example; by distributing the energy output across multiple units, the ever changing demands of the system can be well handled while still responding to multiple requests as well as providing a rapid warm up time.
Also, it is possible for a single boiler to run on its lowest output minimising energy use if demand falls low enough. The other benefits of having more than one boiler mean that it is more reliable. This is especially significant for commercial properties where any breakdown issues could cause detrimental downtime and therefore losses. As well as this, any interruption to business can be avoided as the heating function can be maintained by one connected boiler whilst the other is being maintained. Premature deterioration of one boiler compared to the other lead boiler can also be avoided due to the even distribution of the heating load on all appliances. All of these factors combined mean cascading really can be a cost effective solution.
Robinsons have completed numerous projects where we have installed Cascade Systems such as in the Cedar Court Hotel (pictured). If you would like to discuss how cascade systems could work for you or the options available, please get in touch.
